Alas, there is yet another opera to be seen; and of course, if it is to be seen we will see it. We must be cultured.
Eugene Onegan (that is probably not the way you spell it) is the name of this particular opera we will be seeing tonight. Why anyone would name anything Eugene Onegan is beyond me. The only interesting person that was ever named Eugene is a fictional character (I speak of Eugene Fitzherbert from Tangled). This Eugene may be a fictional character as well, but I don't know a thing about this opera so I couldn't tell you. I think it may have been written by Tchaikovsky, which is comforting because I love his music.
If you haven't already noticed, I am not the biggest fan of opera. In fact, I really don't like it very much. Sad stories about death and heartbreak and all manner of depressing things don't really appeal to me. The whole different language that you don't understand and only know what is going on from the subtitles which don't work half the time is not my cup of tea either. Plus it is kind of boring.
I do, on the other hand, love to watch operettas. Or at least, Gilbert and Sullivan operettas (the only ones I have seen). Because, first, it is in English, second, the music is still great, and third, it is Funny! I mean, the funniest thing is when the people are glad of something they say "Oh joy! Oh rapture!". (No, I am  not kidding). This is the first line of one of the glad songs:
"Oh joy, oh rapture unforeseen,
 For now the sky is all serene;
          The sky is all ablaze."

Who doesn't love that? Anyway, The opera is tonight, and we are having a friend come with us, and possibly stay the night, so it should be good.

Well, at least you have something to tell your kids. "When I was your age, my parents forced me to watch Opera."
