Polly's trouble

This is a part of a story that I made up when I was 10 or 11. Most of the stories that I wrote at that time never were finished, and all of them either had no parents, or tons of children in them, or both.  Hope you like it!

Polly's Trouble

Polly quickly looked around, when she saw no one in view, she quickly sneaked around the corner.
"Polly!"
She had been spotted.
“Polly?”  came the voice again.
“Coming”, replied the downcast Polly.
“Polly, why are you not still at lessons?”
“I was sent home, Miss Grundle don’t like me, and don’t want me in her school. But don’t worry Ma’am, I ain’t never goin’ back to that hateful lady’s school again!”
“Oh, yes you are!” replied the voice, which happened to belong to Polly’s older sister Charlotte (who was generally called Lottie).
“But Lottie, I couldn’t! She hates me!” cried Polly, who was beginning to get quite excited.
“No she doesn’t, she is just a little mad at you.” Replied Lottie.
“Lottie, you just come with me tomorrow, hide in the coat closet, and then you could just hear how she hates me!” cried Polly, beginning to like her plan more and more, “Yes, yes! Then you could call the sheriff, and have her go to jail, and then maybe you could keep school!”
“I will do no such thing.” Replied Lottie, “now you go sit on your bunk and study like you’ve never done before.”
“Yes’m,” and with that, Polly walked away. Polly wasn’t really against learning, but who can learn when your teacher hates you?! Polly Mecklelans certainly couldn’t.
“Miss Grundle is so mean! I ain’t never gonna be mean when I grows up!” she said resolutely to herself.
Meanwhile, Lottie was pondering what she was to do with Polly. She had promised their mama that she would take care of Polly, just before her mother died. Now she was expecting her 5th child, and she was having problems with Polly and her school.
“I declare, I don’t know what I’ll do with her.” And with that, she went off to work some more.

end of chapter one.
