The Camping expedition

So, this is for all of you who have been wondering how our camping trip went.

We left Saturday (even though we were going to leave on Friday, but Justin had to work. Then when he went in to work on Friday, he found out that his boss replaced him, and didn't tell him, so we got to go dancing on Friday night anyway.) morning, at about 11 o'clock. Mum made us clean the house before we left, so we were kind of cranky. (I woke up an hour before I actually needed to) We left, got about 2 miles, then realized we left the directions on the dining room table. So we went back. Then we had to get gas. So it took us 45 minutes to go 2 miles. That wasn't a good start.

However, eventually we got to the campground. Bear Den Family Campground. We picked our site and set up. Then went to cool off in the lake.
The lake is probably the best thing about the whole camp trip. It was the most fun we had there.

Then we went to sleep.

Sunday Morning we woke up early so we could leave to drive almost an hour and a half to the OPC church in Hickory, NC. We worshiped there, and then drove all the way back. We spent the rest of Sunday being hot.

Then the adventureness happened Monday morning. It started thundering and lightning and pouring at 1:00 in the morning and our tents leak apparently, so we packed up our stuff and moved into one of the vacant little cabins that was next to our site. We didn't sleep barely at all that night, and were very tired in the morning when we had to take down our tents and move everything to the cabin. We decided to stay only one more night, instead of two, because of how miserable it was.
That day we went to little Switzerland and Lindville falls. It was hot and miserable.

Tuesday morning we packed the car and headed out. We stopped in Blowing Rock to see what that was like, and had a less than desirable lunch in Lenoir. Then we finally made it home and went to sleep.

The thing about camping is that there are so many bugs. And that just annoys me. (though I didn't get bitten at all because I was very careful about applying bug spray again and again.) Even so, bugs make me miserable.

So does intense heat.

So I think that that trip may have been the last camping trip for a while.

Joanna,

That was your interpretation of the events. Below is how I saw it:

We left Saturday (even though we were going to leave on Friday, but Justin had to work. This allowed me to take one less vacation day to save for another wonderful trip with my family.) morning, at about 11 o'clock. We all wanted a clean house before we left, so we were quite happy. (I woke up an hour later than normal so I was quite refreshed and ready for our adventure) We left, got about 2 miles, then realized we left the directions on the dining room table. So we went back. Then we had to get gas. So it took us 45 minutes to go 2 miles. That was a typical start to every happy family adventure we have. We were all quite happy.

However, eventually we got to the campground. Bear Den Family Campground. We picked our site and set up which was an awesome two level campsite with loads of room to set up three tents. Then went to cool off in the lake.
The lake is probably the worst thing about the whole camp trip. There was tons of "stuff" in the lake and there were weird people always crowding the dock

Then we went to sleep.

Sunday Morning we woke up early so we could leave to drive almost an hour and a half to the OPC church in Hickory, NC. We worshiped there, and then drove all the way back. We spent the rest of Sunday enjoying the beauty of God's creation, except for when we took a swim in the "lake."

It was a beautiful cool morning with a very nice breeze making the switch very enjoyable.
That day we went to little Switzerland and Linville Falls. We enjoyed ice cream and soda and found a very nice used book store where we could enjoy air conditioning before we took a leisurely stroll to the Falls.

Tuesday morning we packed the car and headed out. We stopped in Blowing Rock to see what that was like, and enjoyed the quaint downtown of that cute town nestled in the mountains. We had a wonderful drive home as we listened to one of Pastor Blair's sermons, but I think most of the children fell asleep dreaming of our next wonderful adventure.

I am most heartily amused. Which I suppose is rather rough on you folks, but at least you know that however your next excursion proceeds, those of us who didn't go are likely to enjoy it. I'm sure that will be a comfort.
