This is an article in my newspaper(I am writing a newspaper as a narration for all of the books that I have to read for school, it is called THE JUNIOR HIGH JOURNAL).
This section is called "Winston's World" and it is on the book "The New World" by Winston S. Churchill.
We have come now, to the dawn of the sixteenth century. Renaissance has been stirring the thought and spirit of Italy for over two hundred years, old traditions of ancient Rome and Greece are being held again; so long as they don not dissrupt the church, of course.
The Popes have become temporal rulers, and are very proud. The church has gathered many revenues by the sale of Indulgences; a way-they claim-to remit purgatory for both the living and the dead. The offices of Cardinal and Bishop are being bought and sold. And the common people taxed to make sure that they could never hold a powerful office.
In the middle ages, education was only given to the clergy, but now, everybody-who had enough money, of course-could get a good education, due to the rising number of universities.
And since more people are able to learn stuff, they questioned the old, old ideas of their ancestors had made. And since people had studied it a long time, they began to question the old, old ideas of the church. Thus, the Renaissance bred the Reformation.
In 1517, Martin Luther denounced the sale of Indulgences and nailed his 95 theses on the door of Wittenburg Castle church. What began as a protest against church practices soon became a challenge to church doctrine.
There had always been heresies in the church, but what Luther started, was more than the church could easily handle.
So that is what I wrote on the first half of chapter 1 of THE NEW WORLD.

Nice, Joanna. I actually hadn't read this post until you asked for someone to comment. You have to read to comment. I like the end. Good transition from the Renaissance to the Reformation.
See ya Wednesday!
